Football corner betting: awarded, taken and retaken corners

Football corner betting is settled on corners that are taken. A corner the referee awards at the final whistle, and nobody takes, stays out of the count at 22Bet, Melbet and BetFury.

Football Corner Betting: Which Corners Count?

Key points

  • A corner counts at 22Bet, Melbet and BetFury only once the kick is taken.
  • A retaken corner is one corner in each of their rulebooks.
  • At 22Bet and Melbet a corner bet covers 90 minutes plus stoppage time, and extra time is left out.

The trap in football corner betting comes late in a half: the referee gives a corner and blows the whistle before it is taken. The rules of the bookmaker that took your bet decide that case. Start there before you argue with a livescore app.

Do corners awarded but not taken count?

A corner awarded but not taken does not count at 22Bet, Melbet or BetFury. At 22Bet the football rules say only corner kicks that have been taken go towards Total Corners, and Melbet’s rules carry the same sentence. BetFury spells out the late case: a corner awarded and left untaken at the end of a half or the match is disregarded.

Worked example

Eight corners taken, a ninth awarded at the whistle

Corners taken in 90 minutes
8
Ninth corner awarded, whistle goes before the kick
Not counted
Over 8.5 corners
Loses on a count of 8
Under 8.5 corners
Wins on a count of 8

An app that counts corners won shows nine for this match. These rulebooks settle on eight.

Betfair, a UK bookmaker, goes the other way on televised matches and counts a corner awarded but not taken in normal time. Opta, the data company Betfair settles football statistics on, records a corner won and a corner taken as two events. Opta says the two totals can end up apart, which is how an app and a settled bet come to disagree by one.

Is a retaken corner counted twice?

A retaken corner is counted once. Both 22Bet and Melbet treat a corner kick that was retaken as one corner for settlement, and BetFury’s rule on re-taken corners says the same.

The count in football corner betting comes from the pictures. Both 22Bet and Melbet settle corner numbers on video footage and fall back on official sources when there is no footage. BetFury settles on the match broadcast and its data providers, and ranks them above the league’s own website. It adds that a later correction on another site is no ground for settling the bet again. That makes match footage the evidence to send in a dispute.

Do corners in extra time count?

Corners in extra time stay out of an ordinary corner bet at 22Bet and Melbet. Both take football bets on regular time, which is 90 minutes plus the stoppage time the referee adds. Extra time comes into it only when the market is labelled “extra time”.

A first-half line uses first-half corners, and a team line uses that team’s corners. On timed markets the clock that settles the bet changes with the market, so check which one you are on.

A next-corner bet at 22Bet is refunded if that corner never comes.

What if the corners land exactly on the line?

When the corners land exactly on a whole-number line, 22Bet settles an ordinary over/under bet at odds of 1 and the stake comes back. Take ₦1,000 on over 9 corners at 1.90. Nine corners return the ₦1,000, and ten or more return ₦1,900.

In an acca that leg counts at odds of 1, and the other legs decide the return. A treble at 1.90, 1.80 and 2.00 has combined odds of 6.84. If the corner leg lands on nine, the price drops to 3.60 and a winning slip pays ₦3,600 on the same stake.

A three-way total is settled another way. It is marked “3way” at 22Bet and pays “Exactly 9” on nine corners, while over 9 and under 9 both lose. Read the label before you take a whole-number line.

What to send when a corner count looks wrong

When a corner count looks wrong, give the bookmaker the minute of the corner you think was missed. At 22Bet the general terms ask for a video recording with the exact timestamps when you dispute a settlement, and take claims for ten days. Its football rules allow an hour after the match for statistics markets to settle, so wait that long before you write.

  • The bet ID and the exact market name from your bet history.
  • The minute of the disputed corner, and whether the kick was taken.
  • The rule you rely on: taken, retaken or the period.

A corner line can be one leg of an acca, and the accumulator guide shows what a lost or void leg does to the slip. The 22Bet review, the Melbet review and the BetFury review cover payments, bonuses and licences. To weigh them against other bookmakers, use the table of betting sites in Nigeria.
