How we rate betting sites

The six criteria, their weights, where the scores come from and how the order of the Betbook Table is set.

Updated · Betbook

Every site in the Betbook Table has a score out of 10 on up to six criteria, and an overall score that is their weighted average. Odds and payout speed carry the most weight because they affect every bet you place and every withdrawal you make; a welcome bonus is used once.

The six criteria and their weights

Weight of each criterion in the overall score
  1. Odds and margins

An editorial opinion about the sportsbook offering, not a measured odds-margin benchmark. Compare the same market at the same time.

    20%
  2. Payout speed

An editorial assessment of published withdrawal information, not a timed payment test or guaranteed processing speed.

    20%
  3. Bonuses and terms

The size of the welcome offer weighed against wagering, minimum odds and time limits.

    15%
  4. Mobile experience

An editorial view of the mobile offering, not a measured app speed or data-use test.

    15%
  5. Markets, live betting and games

Depth of markets, in-play coverage, cash out and streaming, and the range of casino games.

    15%
  6. Payments for Nigerian players

Naira deposits and local methods count most; crypto options, minimum deposit and support are weighed too.

    15%

Payments are scored for a player in Nigeria, so naira deposits and local methods count for more than crypto alone.

How the overall score is worked out

Each sub-score is multiplied by its weight, the results are added up, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights that apply. For a site scored on all six criteria that sum is 100.

Worked example

A site scored on all six criteria

Sub-scores
Odds 9.2, Payouts 8.4, Bonus 7.5, Mobile 8.0, Markets 8.8, Payments 7.9
Sub-scores × weights
9.2 × 20 + 8.4 × 20 + 7.5 × 15 + 8.0 × 15 + 8.8 × 15 + 7.9 × 15
Divided by
100
Overall score
8.35, shown as 8.4

With these sub-scores the overall score is 8.4 out of 10.

A site without a sportsbook has no odds score. Its overall score is the weighted average of the criteria that remain, so it is neither marked up nor marked down for a product it does not offer.

Worked example

The same site without a sportsbook

Sub-scores
Payouts 8.4, Bonus 7.5, Mobile 8.0, Markets 8.8, Payments 7.9
Sub-scores × weights
8.4 × 20 + 7.5 × 15 + 8.0 × 15 + 8.8 × 15 + 7.9 × 15
Divided by
20 + 15 + 15 + 15 + 15 = 80
Overall score
8.14, shown as 8.1

Without the odds score, the overall score is 8.1 out of 10, worked out over the criteria that apply.

The overall score is calculated from the sub-scores every time the table is published. It is never entered by hand.

Where the scores come from

The sub-scores are Betbook’s editorial assessment. They are based on what each operator publishes on its own site: the welcome offer and its terms, the minimum deposit, the payment methods, the payout time it states, its products, its apps and the licence it names.

Scores are editorial opinions, not measured odds margins, timed withdrawals or first-hand product tests. A score does not prove that an operator has better prices or faster payments. Commercial facts are checked separately against the review’s linked sources; account availability can differ.

Check before you deposit

Operators change offers and terms. The figure on the operator’s own site on the day you register is the one that applies.

How the order of the table is set

The Betbook Table is not a list of every betting site. It lists sites that Betbook has a commercial arrangement with, and their order is set by Betbook.

DisclosureBetbook earns commission from the betting sites it lists. That affects which sites are covered and can affect where they appear in the table. Scores are Betbook’s editorial assessment against the published criteria.

The figures an operator publishes are shown as it states them, whatever the commercial arrangement. More on how Betbook is paid is in the advertiser disclosure.

Publication, updates and source checks

A page’s publication date stays with its first release. Its update date changes when its content changes. A source-check notice has a separate date, states what was checked and links to the relevant source. A page update alone does not mean an operator’s offer, cashier or licence was rechecked.

Details to compare with the operator’s terms

  • Welcome offer: amount, wagering, minimum odds and expiry
  • Minimum deposit and payment methods, naira and crypto
  • Payout time stated by the operator
  • Products, apps and the licence the site names

What a score cannot tell you

A score is an editorial opinion formed using the criteria and information described in the review. It does not establish better prices, faster withdrawals or superior app performance, and it cannot predict an individual account outcome or a winning bet.

Report an error

If a figure is wrong or out of date, write to us with the address of the page and what should change. We check it against the operator’s own site and correct the page.

What a source check establishes

The separate source-check date covers only the named documents and fields. Regulator entries are distinguished from operator-stated licences. Global offers keep their published currency and are not assumed to be Nigerian entitlements. Missing payment and promotion details stay unknown rather than being labelled unavailable.
