Key points
- A 10% boost on a winning six-leg acca of ₦1,000 at 1.70 a leg adds ₦2,314 to a return of ₦24,138.
- The boost is paid only when every leg wins; the odds imply that this slip lands about once in 24 attempts at best.
- The same six legs at 1.75 with no boost return more than the boosted slip.
An acca boost is a plain percentage, so its effect is easy to measure: take one accumulator, apply the boost, and compare it with the same slip without one. The example uses a 10% boost; the percentage, and the rules for earning it, differ from one bookmaker to the next.
One slip, with and without the boost
Worked example
Six legs at 1.70, stake ₦1,000
- Combined odds
- 1.70 multiplied six times = 24.14
- Return without a boost
- ₦1,000 × 24.14 = ₦24,138
- Winnings
- ₦24,138 − ₦1,000 = ₦23,138
- Boost
- 10% of ₦23,138 = ₦2,314
- Return with the boost
- ₦24,138 + ₦2,314 = ₦26,451
The boost adds ₦2,314, provided all six legs win. Some bookmakers apply the percentage to the full return instead of the winnings; the terms say which.
What the boost does not change
It does not change the chance of winning. Six legs at 1.70 carry combined odds of 24.14, which stand for a chance of about one in 24 at best, and the boost is paid in that one case only. In the others the stake is lost, boosted or not.
It does not repair a weaker price either. If another bookmaker offers the same six selections at 1.75 a leg, the plain acca there returns ₦28,723, more than the boosted ₦26,451. On this slip a 10% boost is worth about the same as moving each leg from 1.70 to 1.73.
What to check in the terms
- The minimum number of legs, and the minimum odds for a leg to count.
- Whether the percentage rises with more legs, and where it stops.
- Whether the boost is paid as cash or as a free bet, and whether it is capped.
- Which sports and markets qualify.
That is what an acca boost changes about your payout: a little more on the rare win, nothing on the rest. Accumulator offers that are available now are in the acca boosts list, the accumulator guide explains why the price of each leg matters more than the extra on top, and bookmakers are compared on their odds in the table of betting sites in Nigeria.
